Primary Entry Mind-Upload -> Verification Commons

What This Site Builds First

To keep mind uploading and WBE from remaining only a dream narrative, the first requirement is a shared rule set. Mind-Upload puts data layout, evaluation, failure judgment, and reproduction procedures in place first so anyone can check the same result against the same criteria.

What It Does Not Claim Yet

  • Connectome-complete is not emulation-complete.
  • Human evidence remains layered and proxy-based.
  • Same-subject wording does not make one state sample.
  • Proxy bundles need compatibility, repeatability, and disagreement audits.

Project Scope

What This Site Is Trying To Build

To keep mind uploading and WBE from remaining only a dream narrative, the first requirement is a shared rule set. Mind-Upload puts data layout, evaluation, failure judgment, and reproduction procedures in place first so anyone can check the same result against the same criteria.

What We Fix First

  • Standards, repositories, benchmarks, and audits must be built as one package.
  • Claim levels and failure conditions are fixed up front so decoding is not confused with emulation.
  • For maintenance-state claims, local causal evidence and living-human proxy evidence are kept on separate axes, so bridge assumptions must be disclosed rather than silently fused.
  • For decode / biomarker scores, the Specificity & Shortcut Card separates the target neural variable from nuisance routes and audits subject / session fingerprint plus acquisition-distribution shortcuts independently.

What We Do Not Claim Up Front

  • It remains unresolved whether noninvasive measurement alone can capture enough internal state for WBE.
  • Recent rodent causal studies show that astrocyte-state can matter for recall, multiday stabilization, and fear-state representations, but this still does not provide a human whole-brain readout.
  • Current human astrocyte-related PET route-role families, target-defined neuroimmune PET target families, and transport-side clearance routes remain non-equivalent proxy classes: SMBT-1 MAO-B target-validation / disease-context / quantification / biodistribution, SL25.1188 MAO-B quantification / severity-conditioned routes, I2BS routes, TSPO disease-context / pathology-validated PET, CSF1R first-in-human route-setting PET, COX-2 celecoxib-blockade / test-retest-bounded enzyme PET, and human macroscopic CSF-oscillation / parenchyma-CSF water-exchange / respiration-conditioned net-flow / exercise-conditioned contrast-influx / meningeal-lymphatic-flow / intrathecal-tracer / CSF-to-blood-clearance / CSF-mobility / model-based biomarker-efflux routes still do not identify which astrocyte, microglial controller, or synapse is responsible.
  • A connectome, cell type, and glial proxy do not by themselves fix local ATP reserve or mitochondrial positioning, so repeated-burst and dendritic-plasticity claims need a separate bioenergetic ceiling.

Known vs Unknown

What Is Known and What Remains Open

Relatively Well Supported

  • Connectome-complete does not mean emulation-complete; missing maintenance-state variables must be audited separately.
  • Human evidence is layered: local ultrastructure, synaptic-density PET, receptor / transporter atlas priors, selected occupancy PET routes, challenge-limited displacement / release PET routes, five-metabolite 1H-MRSI similarity scaffolds, high-resolution 1H-MRSI metabolite-distribution routes, 31P metabolite / pH balance, 31P MT exchange-flux, 31P NAD-content mapping, 31P functional NAD-dynamics routes, deuterium metabolite-mapping / absolute-quantification routes, deuterium kinetic-rate imaging, quantity-defined ionic proxy families, tract-scale transmission-speed routes, myelin-sensitive / tissue-health-sensitive MRI ratio families, macro thermal / perturbation-conditioned thermal proxy families, BBB water-exchange proxies, tracer-specific BBB transport proxies, blood-CSF barrier / choroid-plexus perfusion / blood-to-CSF transport / water-cycling / apparent-exchange proxies, SMBT-1 MAO-B target-validation / disease-context / quantification / biodistribution routes, SL25.1188 MAO-B quantification / severity-conditioned routes, I2BS routes, TSPO disease-context / validation-bounded PET, CSF1R route-setting target-defined PET, COX-2 enzyme-defined PET, and macroscopic CSF oscillation / parenchyma-CSF water exchange / respiration-conditioned net-flow / exercise-conditioned contrast-influx / meningeal-lymphatic-flow / intrathecal-tracer / CSF-to-blood-clearance / CSF-mobility / model-based biomarker-efflux routes are not one near-direct readout.
  • Same-subject or same-brain wording does not by itself make a live-to-fix, cross-regime, or cross-day workflow one state sample; bridge delay, regime continuity, coordinate transfer, and bridge validation still matter.
  • Several living-human proxy rows are not promoted together unless same-subject relation, effective time window / physiological-regime compatibility, route-local repeatability versus transfer, disagreement handling, model burden, and residual hidden-state ceilings are disclosed explicitly.
  • The Temporal Validity Card is now part of the public workflow so same-day success is not silently promoted to cross-day or long-term claims.

Still Open or Conditional

  • It remains unresolved whether noninvasive measurement alone can capture enough internal state for WBE.
  • Recent rodent causal studies show that astrocyte-state can matter for recall, multiday stabilization, and fear-state representations, but this still does not provide a human whole-brain readout.
  • Current human astrocyte-related PET route-role families, target-defined neuroimmune PET target families, and transport-side clearance routes remain non-equivalent proxy classes: SMBT-1 MAO-B target-validation / disease-context / quantification / biodistribution, SL25.1188 MAO-B quantification / severity-conditioned routes, I2BS routes, TSPO disease-context / pathology-validated PET, CSF1R first-in-human route-setting PET, COX-2 celecoxib-blockade / test-retest-bounded enzyme PET, and human macroscopic CSF-oscillation / parenchyma-CSF water-exchange / respiration-conditioned net-flow / exercise-conditioned contrast-influx / meningeal-lymphatic-flow / intrathecal-tracer / CSF-to-blood-clearance / CSF-mobility / model-based biomarker-efflux routes still do not identify which astrocyte, microglial controller, or synapse is responsible.
  • A connectome, cell type, and glial proxy do not by themselves fix local ATP reserve or mitochondrial positioning, so repeated-burst and dendritic-plasticity claims need a separate bioenergetic ceiling.
  • A glial proxy or generic metabolic note does not by itself fix astrocyte network / ensemble state, so recall, reconsolidation, and multiday-stabilization claims need a separate astrocyte-state ceiling.
Step 1 Entry

The core of Mind-Upload is not bold conclusions but a verification commons that lets progress be measured.

Step 2 L0

We look at the shared infrastructure first, then the starter datasets.

Step 3 L1-L2

Claim levels and failure conditions are fixed up front so decoding is not confused with emulation.

Later Higher-Level Claims

It is still unsettled which measurement granularity will ultimately be sufficient for WBE.

Technical Stop Lines

Technical Stop Lines At The Front Door

Observation Ceiling

  • Maintenance-state variables such as sleep/homeostasis, sleep architecture / replay-coupling, myelin, thermal-state, ionic milieu / chloride homeostasis, post-transcriptional RNA-state, phospho-signaling / second-messenger state, local proteostasis / synaptic tagging, cargo-transport / cytoskeletal trafficking state, perisynaptic ECM / PNN state, bioenergetic / mitochondrial state, neurovascular-unit / BBB / pericyte state, glial substrate-routing, astrocyte-state, and clearance / immune support remain outside the wiring diagram.
  • Connectome-complete does not mean emulation-complete; missing maintenance-state variables must be audited separately.
  • Human evidence is layered: local ultrastructure, synaptic-density PET, receptor / transporter atlas priors, selected occupancy PET routes, challenge-limited displacement / release PET routes, five-metabolite 1H-MRSI similarity scaffolds, high-resolution 1H-MRSI metabolite-distribution routes, 31P metabolite / pH balance, 31P MT exchange-flux, 31P NAD-content mapping, 31P functional NAD-dynamics routes, deuterium metabolite-mapping / absolute-quantification routes, deuterium kinetic-rate imaging, quantity-defined ionic proxy families, tract-scale transmission-speed routes, myelin-sensitive / tissue-health-sensitive MRI ratio families, macro thermal / perturbation-conditioned thermal proxy families, BBB water-exchange proxies, tracer-specific BBB transport proxies, blood-CSF barrier / choroid-plexus perfusion / blood-to-CSF transport / water-cycling / apparent-exchange proxies, SMBT-1 MAO-B target-validation / disease-context / quantification / biodistribution routes, SL25.1188 MAO-B quantification / severity-conditioned routes, I2BS routes, TSPO disease-context / validation-bounded PET, CSF1R route-setting target-defined PET, COX-2 enzyme-defined PET, and macroscopic CSF oscillation / parenchyma-CSF water exchange / respiration-conditioned net-flow / exercise-conditioned contrast-influx / meningeal-lymphatic-flow / intrathecal-tracer / CSF-to-blood-clearance / CSF-mobility / model-based biomarker-efflux routes are not one near-direct readout.
  • Human whole-brain evidence remains layered and proxy-based; no current route directly fixes current transcription / chromatin state, post-transcriptional RNA-state, phospho-signaling / second-messenger state, local electrical-coupling / extracellular-geometry / inhibitory-driving-force regime, ECM / PNN gate state, local proteostasis / synaptic-tag capture, cargo-routing state, neuromodulatory occupancy / release state, chloride set point, neurovascular-unit / BBB / pericyte controller state, or branch-local mitochondrial positioning.

Interpretation Ceiling

  • High decode / biomarker scores can rise from subject / session fingerprint alone, so the Specificity & Shortcut Card audits that shortcut independently.

Connectome-complete does not mean emulation-complete; missing maintenance-state variables must be audited separately.

Mind-Upload

Start Here - Define success criteria, standards, benchmarks, and preregistration first / 5-10 min

Mind-Upload is a site for breaking the large question, "Can a mind be reproduced on a computer?", into small, testable tasks. Instead of rushing to a final conclusion, it starts by defining what counts as progress and whether other people can verify the same result.

Technical Roadmap: Understanding WBE Through Measurement, Reconstruction, and Implementation

Roadmap (Definition #1) - Break 'what counts as progress' into a question tree with reading order and minimum arrival conditions / 20-30 min (5 min for the index only)

This page is the map of mind-uploading research. Instead of jumping straight to conclusions, it organizes in sequence what to measure, what to reconstruct, how to run it, and how to verify it. In practice, it visualizes where the field currently stands across measurement -> reconstruction -> implementation -> verification -> social deployment.

Toward Mind Uploading: An Integrated Technical and Theoretical Approach

Perspective - Audit the hypothesis of reproducing brain information processing on another substrate through the barriers of measurability, identifiability, and maintenance state / 30-45 min

This page is a long-form research note aimed at turning mind uploading (WBE) into something that can be evaluated as real research. It is organized around four technical questions: what can be observed directly, what remains latent, what can be perturbed or calibrated, and what has to stay stable during implementation. It treats recent results, failures, and limits with the same weight so that the boundary between scaffold progress and state-complete claims remains explicit.

Data & Hands-on: Where to start and how to get to L0

Resource - Connect ``what to use'' and ``how to reproduce'' in the shortest route without separating them. / 12-20 minutes

This page is a practical list to help you decide which data to practice with first. First, we use public data to create a state in which we can reproduce the same results (L0), and then check to see if we can predict and withstand changes in conditions (L1-L2).

Introduction: Making Mind Uploading / WBE a Measurable Problem

Primer - To protect the dream, build the measuring stick first / 10-15 minutes

If you want to move mind uploading forward seriously, the fastest route is to define in advance both the condition under which you can say “this worked” and the condition under which you must say “this failed.” Mind-Upload is building the verification infrastructure needed to make those checks comparable.

Introduction: What EEG Measures, What It Can Do, and What It Cannot Do

Primer - A realistic guide that refuses to turn EEG into magical mind reading / 12-18 minutes

EEG does not directly show the inside of the brain. It measures a mixed electrical pattern at the scalp. That gives EEG strong temporal resolution, but weak and blurry spatial localization. For that reason, Mind-Upload prioritizes data quality control (QC) and shared data-organization rules such as BIDS before anything else.

FAQ: Common Questions and Common Failure Modes

FAQ - Prefer verifiable progress to flashy conclusions / 8-15 minutes

This page is designed to block common misunderstandings early. The stronger the claim, the more carefully you should check, in order, (1) the definition of terms, (2) the measurement scale, (3) the condition that would count as failure, and (4) the reproduction procedure.

Glossary

Reference - Start by keeping the words straight / 3 to 10 minutes for only the necessary items

This glossary is a quick reference for the meaning of terms. It starts with everyday-language explanations, moves to stricter definitions only when needed, and ties the discussion back to measurement, modeling, and verification.
